“Our fathers gave us many laws which they had learned from their fathers. These laws were good,” Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce tribe once said. The laws of the Creator are designed for us to live in harmony and balance with ourselves and each other. The gift of desperation is what finally drives many of us to ask for help and seek the spiritual principles that make recovery possible. By becoming vulnerable and asking for help, we can change and grow. Sharing in recovery may pose risks, but it ultimately leads to acceptance, support, and love. Let us remember that it takes courage to be vulnerable and that growth requires us to embrace our vulnerability. The gift of desperation has helped many of us become honest, open-minded, and willing to seek the help we need for personal and spiritual development. Today, may we embrace the courage to be vulnerable and ask for help when we need it, knowing that our growth and well-being depend on it.
