Interconnectedness and Spiritual Awakening
“Everyone has a song. God gives us each a song. That’s how we know who we are. Our song tells us who we are.” -Charlie Knight, UTE
As we journey through life, embracing our unique paths and developing our inner strength, we discover our personal song. This song, a gift from the Creator, empowers us with courage and strength. It helps us see life in a sacred way and connects us to our deeper purpose. With this song comes the responsibility to act in accordance with its guiding principles.
Addiction once distorted our values, leading us to rationalizations that hindered our ability to make wise and loving decisions. Through the Twelve Steps, we find real values that help us live in harmony with ourselves and others. We place our faith in a Higher Power, growing secure enough to trust our communities, families, and ourselves. Honesty, responsibility, and selflessness become our guiding principles, allowing us to become productive members of society.
Just as we learned in early recovery that we need each other to stay clean, we come to believe in the power of interdependence. Our Fellowship is built on the therapeutic value of one person helping another. We are a worldwide network, united in purpose, working together to support each other’s recovery and carry our message of healing.
Interdependence knows no borders; it is the tie that binds us. It’s the ripple effect that empathy and participation have on our Fellowship. Our connectedness helps us heal from the disease of addiction and deepens our connection to each other, our surroundings, and a life worth living.
I am grateful for the values I’ve developed and the ability they give me to make wise, loving decisions. I need others to practice interdependence, so I’ll connect with other members of the Fellowship today. I’ll contribute to the recovery of others and participate in my own, recognizing that they are intricately linked.
In this spirit of unity and mutual support, we embrace our shared journey toward spiritual awakening and well-being.
