Meditation of the Day:
“The mind’s eye changes the way we judge things.”
— Fools Crow, Lakota
“What you see is what you get.” Our mind acts as a projector that illuminates our thoughts onto the screen of our reality. This reality is shaped by our beliefs and perceptions. If we believe someone is unkind, that is all we will see, even if others reveal their true kindness. However, when we learn to shift our beliefs, we open our eyes to new possibilities, transforming not only our judgment of others but also our experience of the world.
As we walk the path of recovery, we become gentle with our expectations, practicing the art of surrender to a Power greater than ourselves. In our previous struggles, we often prayed for specific outcomes and immediate relief—a habit learned in the chaos of addiction. Through the principles of the Eleventh Step, we learn to seek not what we want but the knowledge of what is truly needed for our growth and peace.
We stop the battle against life’s flow and instead embrace acceptance. In our prayers and meditations, we ask for guidance on how to navigate our experiences, trusting that answers will come subtly, often as a quiet assurance within us. We learn that our lives are being directed, and this realization brings a profound sense of peace.
Just for today: I will surrender my expectations and judgments, turning to my Higher Power for guidance. I will open my mind’s eye to see the world anew, accepting life’s ebb and flow as I nurture the spirit of Fellowship that unites us all.
